Cleaning

I am cleaning my studio. It is a large task given we have almost 5,000 square feet of space. Over the years I've let piles of incomplete things accumulate just because I didn't know what to do with them. I uncovered some old collage work and notice I am pleased with the simplicity of the designs and with the color. I also notice how I have pieced things together to make something new since childhood. If I didn't have something or if I just wanted to explore an idea, I would piece it together from what I could find around me.
I have recently reconnected with a dear childhood friend with whom I spent many hours playing Lewis and Clark Explorers. We would walk the woods and creek beds around her home looking for new territory, finding little treasures here and there. I am reminded of the joy in just heading out, not knowing what we would find, and being delighted in the journey itself. The same is true for me today as I piece together and explore creating new works. I am not sure what I am heading towards or what it will look like when I get there.
